Dear Amazing Borneo,

Good Day to you.
Now our adventure holiday is over and we could do it well from the very beginning to the end. I'd like to say thank to each and every one of you for all of your warmly welcome and cozy arrangements from the transportation to the accommodation. ( Certificate too :P )
In addition, we're accompanied by a guide (sorry for not remembering his name) when we were on Via Ferrata. He really took care of us all the way long and thus why we could finish it ard 12:15 PM even in that rainy bad weather. Although it was really dangerous (especially the weather), this experience will become once in a life time memory for us definitely.
Finally, we would like to say that "We received more than we sought in this Amazing Borneo Walk with Nature". I've attached some of our photos for remembrance and I hope we meet again for other outdoor activities

Dear Team Amazing Borneo,

As I was writing this, the background sound of rains reminds me of my energy level back last week, a few hundred metres away from Laban Rata. Still, I preserve my energy. No matter how much the insanity of rain-drenched, I have to go on. Joe start pulling me up then. Finally, we did arrived at Laban Rata - Yeah!!! Thank goodness!
I'm wondering how is the weather @ Sabah Park, or Laban Rata. I wish all the best for Guides handling the school of eager climbers tomorrow morning!

I came back from Malaysia yesterday, I’ll be glad to give you my feedback on my trip to Mt Kinabalu with “Amazing Borneo”.
There is not much to say, it was perfect. All the staff we met (from the booking to the trip) was excellent, available and very clear. I would like to mention that were assigned an excellent guide, named Joe, very professional (perfect English, clear and thorough briefings before each climb) yet easy going and patient. I attached a picture of the trip.

We had a great trip to Mount Kinabalu (minus the terrible weather we encountered at the summit)! We booked the 3D2N trip only 2 weeks before and we changed our minds several times about whether to do the via feratta and whether to book the 3D2N or 2D1N trip but our emails and requests were promptly replied and attended to by Rose (very much appreciated!). We were picked up at the time we requested from our hotel on day 1 and had a relaxing evening at hill lodge at Mount Kinabalu Park. On day 2, a friendly liaison lady (i forgot her name!) met us at the park to give us a short briefing and she also helped arranged for private taxi transfer back to the city (also very much appreciated!) on day 3 as we arrived the base much earlier than the other lady who was supposed to share the transport back to city.
The most important part of it all was that the 2 of us was assigned a terrific and experienced private guide, Joe! He was also our porter as there were a shortage of porters that day. Without Joe, I don't think we would have made it up to the peak! So, special thanks to Joe!
All in all, we are very glad that we chose Amazing Borneo and will not hesitate to recommend anyone else to book with Amazing Borneo!

It has been some time since we returned to the cold and ice of Europe. From this perspective, our recent holiday escape to Borneo holds even greater value.
Our stay in Kota Kinabalu was very colorful and packed with variety. All that would be impossible without the great excursions provided by your agency and skillful guidance of Evan and his colleague David.
We were always treated with utmost respect and guys always came on time or even slightly before scheduled departures. During the trips we could rely on Evan for all kinds of information about both the regions we travelled thru or Malaysia in general. On destinations we were given royal treatment as well as all requested information.
It felt that guys did their jobs effortlessly with ease. The fact that all that was frequently accompanied with smiles made our holiday even more relaxing.
Our experience of Malaysia is greatly improved with help of both Evan and David and we would always be grateful for that.
We would probably consider coming back to your beautiful country again.

Thank you so much to you and your colleagues for making our hike up Mt Kinabalu such a wonderful and memorable experience!

All aspects of the trip worked at as well or better than expected. In particular, our guide (James) was absolutely wonderful. Not only was he friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, he was able to provide much needed assistance to one of our party at critical times. I understand that he stood in last-minute for another guide that had been assigned to us.

There was only one item that could have been improved - one of the bunks in our room at Laban Rata was very squeeky, so we were kept awake during that vital period.

Here is my assessment of the various items:
•    Airport pickup and transfer to Kinabalu Park: Excellent. Our driver, David, was very friendly and helpful.
•    Lunch stop: Great - we bought durian, bananas and rambutan, ate as much as we could for lunch and brought the rest with us for the hike!
•    Accommodation at Kinabalu Park: Very pleasant, although we missed our 7 AM pickup by just 2 minutes.
•    Meals at Kinabalu Park: Delicious - great choice of yummy food.
•    Hike to Laban Rata: Tough but very enjoyable. James kept us well paced (i.e. not too fast at the start) and gave us an excellent commentary along the way, highlighting the various plant types, and taking excellent photographs!
•    Accommodation at Laban Rata: Excellent, above expectations, except for the squeeky bunk.
•    Hike to the Summit and return to Laban Rata: We probably would not have made it if it were not for James' encouragement and help!
•    Hike down to Timpohon Gate: We needed to maintain a quick pace to be there in time for the bus (1 PM). With James' encouragement, we actually arrived in time for lunch before taking the bus to the airport.
•    Transfer to airport: This went without any problem, and we arrived at the airport at 2:30 PM, allowing our son to get back to work in Melbourne the next day, while we went to relax at Kapalai Resort.

“I'm really glad I did it.....”
Initially I was coordinating the trip with some friends but they later withdrew so I was left planning this trip alone. There are a number of agencies online but after some research, I chose Amazing Borneo. I procrastinated about dates but despite my own uncertainties they proved to be very efficient and professional. As a single traveler, they are much more reasonably priced than other agencies which charge double. All my queries, no matter how petty, were speedily answered via email. I was provided an itinerary, and punctually picked up from my hotel in Kota Kinabalu and driven 1 ½ hours to base camp. They assigned a very good guide, Joe, who took good care of me. He gave me a safety briefing before we embarked. As his English was very good we had some interesting chats on the way.

Much of what other reviewers mentioned regarding what to bring up is pretty much spot on; prepare 3 sets of change; preferably cargo trousers, lounge pants ( to relax in), 2 short sleeved t-shirts, 1 long sleeve t-shirt, fleece, rain coat (for the summit), 3 pairs of socks, underwear, beanie, waterproof cap, waterproof hiking shoes, and a poncho. If you don’t get wet from the November rainfall then you’ll get wet from your own sweat. Even on the way up to the summit, you will sweat and end up taking off a layer of clothing! Take gloves, and a torch light to strap on your head, and most importantly a walking stick. Package the main bulk of the kit in a simple bag, and hire a porter to carry it. Repack the lunch box into a plastic bag to save space and have additional energy bars to snack on every kilometer or so. And don’t forget to carry water and a first aid kit containing plasters and basic medicine.

The trek is challenging but very doable for moderately fit people. The key is to ascend slowly, taking baby steps. Enjoy the diverse flora and fauna, and take the time to appreciate the transition in nature on the way up. This helped me to acclimatize to the change in altitude. Consequently, I did not suffer any ailments that some other people may have experienced. I meandered, and it still took the average 4-5 hours to climb.

Although there is no hot water to take a shower, try to book Laban Rata guesthouse which is the only heated unit. It’s convenient, and you will not have to walk in and out for the meals. I was amused to find that in Laban Rata guesthouse, slippers were provided just like a hotel!

Much of the headache and feeling of nausea that people get, I suspect, comes from dehydration and extreme exhaustion. Drink a lot of water, and take ibuprofen to kill the pain in your head, and as a prophylactic for the pain you might suffer the day after the climb.

After getting used to the warmth of being inside for a few hours it was shock to the system to have to get up early in the morning to start the last leg to the summit. Nevertheless, the night climb was thrilling. I experienced so many emotions in that period of time. The night climb seemed never ending, and was physically challenging, and the last 500 metres was the most intense. I ran out of bottle eventually, and finally Joe had to literally take me by the hand and yank me up to the summit. The final reward of witnessing the sunrise, and infinite sky line was gob smacking. You can cry out of exhaustion, and be astounded by the awesomeness of it all at the same time. Everyone clambered to the top in anxious bid to get the ultimate “I was here” photograph. Just as dawn broke to reveal the amazing scenery, Joe said, “Welcome to my office!”. And I thought, how cool is that?!
Going down was a problem for me. The granite, even when wet, should provide grip for your shoes but I still found it tricky. Joe taught me and a small group of people how to repel down the rock faces. I was so surprised to see where we had climbed in the dark.

Joe taught me to zigzag down. Don’t jump. Baby steps going down as well. This way, you’ll avoid the toe hammering, and knee jolting. The next day, I felt the onset of sore thigh and calf muscles. Admittingly, for a bit I felt like I’d been stretched on a medieval torture rack but I recovered after a couple of days.

I met some lovely people! And it was fun to say hello and briefly swap progress reports with them. I don’t think I saw anyone really suffering from the climb. Most of it was all smiles and a lot of joking. I am particularly pleased that my leg held out especially as I had surgery, a few years back, on a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Just bear in mind Frank Sinatra’s song, and “Do it your Way”. Then go and pamper yourself by getting a massage.

Dear Dinna,

Thank you for your recent email requesting feedback about our experience with Amazing Borneo Tours.  From our very first contact with your company, the relationship has been universally positive.  I had multiple contacts with Carlotte Gregory and she invariably answered my emails promptly and provided the complete information I sought.  Everything that you promised was delivered.

Upon our 8:00am arrival into KK we were met by Yamin within 40 paces after stepping off the gangway of our ship.  He called one of your dispatchers and within 5 minutes a van arrived for our transport.  We were immediately impressed with the size of the vehicle and its cleanliness.  Yamin could not have been more pleasant.  His English was excellent and from the very start, there was every indication that our tour would be superb.

The day of our tour was Sunday so traffic was virtually non-existent.  We first drove to the Sabah Foundation Building, the gleaming cylindrical building.  We entered the building and looked around at its base.  Yamin provided us continuous dialogue about Malaysia as well as Kota Kinabalu.  We then drove through the local university which was impressive.  We were then on to the City Mosque where we were able to enter and enjoy the majesty of the facility.  Yamin introduced us to the volunteer manager of the mosque who shared considerable interesting information.  He agreed to have a photo taken with him which I've attached.  Upon exiting, we made a contribution to the mosque.

The rain that had been present just as the ship arrived had completely stopped and was not seen again this day.  We drove up Signal Hill and had a wonderful view of the city.  We stopped at a lay-by, walked further up the hill and the driver met us farther along the way.  We could see the "floating village" across the water.  We drove down the mountain and to the State Mosque for still more photos.  Yamin pointed out several fine hotels.  He also explained to us about tours he conducts into the jungle that we might like to consider in the future.

Back in town, we stopped at the Filipino Market and Yamin escorted us while continuing his description of what we were seeing.  (We were becoming quite educated.)  We asked him about changing some money to ringetts and Yamin directed us to a money changer business just inside the entrance to the Mall.

We asked Yamin to take us back to the ship since our half-day tour was coming to a close.  The driver returned us to the foot of the gangway of the ship and as a parting gesture, Yamin gave each of us a hug.  We were able to tip Yamin and the driver with local currency.

Would you say we were satisfied customers?  I think from the write-up above, you may conclude that all of us were quite pleased with everything -- Yamin, the driver, your company and your city.  I would be pleased to endorse your company in the future and you may provide my email address to any prospective client.  If you're able to make any copies of the attached photos, please provide them to Yamin.

I wanted to take this opportunity, now that Katrina and I have returned from our amazing Borneo holiday, to thank you and the team for delivering an exceptional service.

The itinerary and events went like clock work. We were met by one of your friendly drivers at the Kota Kinabalu international airport, which was a big relief when we stepped out of customs and into the departing passengers terminal. All our accommodation and transfers was seamless. Your staff were professional, encouraged discussion, friendly and no request appeared to much. I was honestly surprised at how well organised it all was.

With trips like these, especially with multiple transfers between activities and accommodation there is usually at least something that goes wrong. But in this instance, I am so glad I went through Amazing Borneo to organise everything. We provided some feedback to the staff at Manukan Island where we had concerns on the freshness of the food and the various companies behind the activities only operate with cash. Apart from this, we had a great holiday.

This was to Turtle Island-Sepilok-Kinabatangan River area. The staff at the agency were really helpful, patient and kind, particularly as we were travellling with young children and an elderly grandparent of 81 years. This tour takes in some amazing places and is really worth doing if one is planning a visit to Sabah. Sabahans take the conservation of their natural environment very seriously and there is amazing wildlife, particularly birds to be seen including orang-utans in the wild. This was a rare sighting we were privileged to see.
All the drivers, guides and staff were knowledgable, helpful and charming. They were also happy to locate a lost toy that had been left behind and were exceedingly helpful in posting it on. One major tip: Take very good binoculars and cameras to really capture the wildlife and lots of mosquito spray for evening trips. Otherwise it was a bug free/leech free trip.

We were lucky to find this tour agency on the web and we had a great time in Sandakan. Will be planning a return trip in the future.

a big thanks. I was the worst customer..... Last minute booking, vague ideas on what we might want to do....and from that they created a fabulous itinerary sorted with fast, efficient and friendly emails. The people they employ must be the creme of Sabah. They are some of the friendliest, most knowledgeable, and passionate people I have ever met. The tour operators and partners they use for their tours are also fantastic. I tried organising a tour through our Hotel, which I was told was sold out, but Amazing sorted it without issue. My son was feeling ill on our last day, so our tours were rearranged within minutes followed up with a courtesy call on his health. The best service, don't hesitate to book with these guys, and we'll definitely be back!
p.s one of our best moments was snorkeling from the boat at the back of Mamutik Island. Away from the crowds... beautiful

we came to Sabah and climbed Mt Kinabalu with you on 1-3 August ,doing the Via Ferrata with James.

The Zen Garden was a beautiful, comfortable stop before the ascent. Pendant Hut was clean and comfortable, food was tasty, and with a great support team there. Our guide Tumas was very encouraging and supportive, a calm companion on the journey, assisting us as we needed. The actual climb was great, we loved moving through vegetation layers, arriving at the hut and relaxing, before the early night and the ascent in the dark. The climb was hard but we made it and the mountain was spectacular. James was a great guide for the Via Ferrata, it was a lot of fun to add into the adventure. The transport people were friendly and reliable as well.
We wish to thank you all for making it a smooth and well organised part of our wonderful holiday in Sabah. Attached are some photos we are happy to share with you.

Also we are grateful to your support, including the tips about shopping etc. I am attaching the photos taken at your office when we visited you. It seems like ages ago. We visited all the places you kindly marked on the map and I am happy with my purchase. It's a pity we were too tired to walk around the town and enjoy lots of nice local food. Believe or not, after the climb, all we did was liquid, porridge and mango pudding. Since Kota Kinabalu looked like a safe ,attractive and friendly town,  we are going to return there in the near future. Next time, we'd like to enjoy any activities except climbing ! Our fellow Japanese tourists said they had a fantastic time in golfing, snorkelling and spa.

If you have any chance to come to Tokyo, do let us know. I might help you with some advice.

thk u so much for arranging this trip for us. My family and I had a wonderful time in Sabah. My daughter's dream finally come true when she saw the real Rafflesia. Her text book has come alive!!

Pls extend also our heartfelt thanks to the driver, Mr Jay. He's simply awesome!! He showed a lot of care towards our 6 yrs old girl and helped us alot. Hedid more than what a normal driver needs to do. For example, at the river cruise, a group of HK tourist took over our dining table on the boat. Mr Jay didn't argue with them. He simply carried a new table up to the top deck of the boat and set it in front of the boat. We had a personal table to ourselves. We cld enjoy our dinner and the spectacular view at the same time. Not only that, he even caught a live fire fly and gave to my daughter for a close up inspection. He simply delighted her life. Once again, pls help us thank Mr Jay. We'll pray his health will get better.

I'll definitely recommend your company's service to all my friends who want to visit Sabah. And I'll ask them to stay in Nexus resort. Thanks for your recommendation, that's a great choice.

Our students of Sec 3-1 and the teachers had such a memorable and rich learning experience in The Land Beneath the Wind.  We were overwhelmed by the wonderful and warm welcome as we met the two of you, Dyna the OM, and Evan our tour guide, at the Sabah airport. Throughout the trip, we had nothing but praises for the great service that you and your staff have shown us.  You and everyone there were so patient with our students, and always willing to meet our needs and requests almost immediately.  In fact, I was touched that Dyna actually went the extra mile to look for our missing banner upon our arival at the Sabah airport, and that Kenji was kind enough to wait up with me for the 2 students while the rest have made their way to the airport for our departure.  And Evan was such a magnificent guide, always feeding us with interesting and informative details of his native land, Sabah. All these were done without any complains nor criticisms from any of you.

The school immersion programme and the tea-plating experience at the Sabah Tea Plantation were unforgetable events for our students especially.   So was the visit to the Mari Mari Cultural Village where learning was hands-on and made interesting with the demonstrations and performances.  I myself truly enjoyed this whole trip tremendously.
I should say there is a high level of professionalism shown by all of you : )

I do hope you will continue to provide this excellent service to other schools.  I will definitely look forward to working with you and your staff again if the opportunity comes.

I have met some other people here who have found it hard to book anything with the tour agents and have given them your name and number. I hope they call you as I am sure you can find something for them to do! They only have a few days left so can probably only do day tours.

Thanks to Amazing Borneo and Mr Yatim for the educational tour to the Kinabalu Park and Hot Spring on 28/6. My family members enjoyed very much during the trip. We had a v good family bonding. Fm climbing up to the Canopy Walk, visit to the Museum and the most interesting part is to see the Rafflesia flower in real life! We had a great fun riding the 4-wheel! It was very adventurous!
