Is it safe to book with Amazing Borneo or any other website sources?

Yes. It is definitely safe to book with Amazing Borneo as we are listed in Sabah Tourism Board as licensed local operator. Please be aware that there are several reported fraud/bogus promising websites selling Mount Kinabalu & tour packages without licensing. They can be operated from other parts of the world. Many guests are left stranded in Kota Kinabalu without climbing permits/accommodation or tour as claimed. Do ensure you should receive proper invoice, confirmation & tour itinerary from legal local operators with indication of company address, contact numbers and vehicle type. Do not let these scammers spoil your vacations.

When is a good time to visit Sabah Borneo?

The climate in Sabah Borneo is Equatorial/Tropical – generally hot and sunny all year round with scattered unpredictable rains. The temperature in the lowlands is about 32 degrees centigrade and highlands about 21 degrees Centigrade. Theoretically, the monsoon season is from November to February but as we are in a tropical country, there is really not much difference in seasons throughout the year. Hence anytime is considered a good month to visit Sabah Borneo

Are your tours conducted daily?

All Amazing Borneo Tours are conducted daily even during weekends and public holidays unless otherwise fully booked. If you wish to have customised or private tours, please book early to avoid disappointment.

What is a SIC (Seat in Coach)?

Seat in Coach, is the term used for sharing in transfer or tour, therefore guests that are in SIC basis will be sharing vehicle and have other tourist with them on the tour.  There maybe multiple pickups & drop-offs throughout the journey. Do expect some short waiting time.

What types of transportation are used usually in a tour?

Amazing Borneo uses a variety of transportation including comfortable tourist coaches/van/cars to provide our guests with the safest and most efficient transportation in each area. For all our Mount Kinabalu Climbing Tour Packages, a 9 seater licensed tourist van will usually be used. For all other local daily tours, it all depends on the group size. Under circumstances we do use a coach for bigger volume and private cars for small number of SIC.

What type of food is typical of Borneo?

Borneo food is mostly of Asian influence with an extensive variety of fare. The staple foods in the highlands, jungle and rural areas include rice, noodle, meat, fish and vegetable dishes and fresh fruits. Finding food in Kota Kinabalu city is usually very easy with many restaurants catering to different tastes such as Italian, Western, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian and Vietnamese. The most popular menu selection will be fresh seafood and mostly widely available in the city.

Do I need malaria vaccination or tablets when travelling in Sabah?

Although there are no recorded cases of our guests infected with Malaria, we cannot guarantee that there is no malaria present in rural areas of Borneo.  Malaria vaccination - whilst not a requirement, may be advisable for adventurous, deep jungle treks in rural areas of Borneo.  If you are travelling to tourist areas such as Kota Kinabalu city, beaches, or tour destinations listed in our website, it is not necessary. If you are travelling to Sandakan, Tabin, Danum Valley, etc. for wildlife sightings or jungle trekking, we advise all our guests to take all preventive measures against mosquito bites especially during dusk to dawn.  To minimize the risk of being bitten, it is advisable to wear clothes that cover most of your skin and to use insect repellent.  Also it is advisable to keep your chalet door close from dusk to dawn to avoid mosquitoes entering your room, sleeping in air-conditioned or well-screened rooms. If you need to take prophylactic (preventive) medicine, discuss with your doctor the best ways for you to avoid getting sick with malaria.

I have a special dietary requirement. Do you cater for vegetarians?

Absolutely. Please inform our sales consultant when making a booking and upon receiving your tour itinerary, please ensure your dietary requirement is written clearly. Though vegetarians can be easily accommodated in most areas, options typically leave out the meat rather than adding vegetarian mainstays such as tofu, beans, or nuts. Vegetarianism is a concept our country is still learning to comprehend.

Please note that unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that special requirements can always be met. In tour packages where meals are served buffet style, we suggest that you leave out the meat.

Is it best to pre-book the tours or should I wait until I arrive at my destination?

We do accept last minute booking but subject to tour availability. However for a peace of mind and confirmed departure of tours, we suggest that you pre-book at least one week in advance especially for tours that involve accommodation.

Do you offer discounts if we book multiple packages with you?

Absolutely! Please check with our sales consultant when making enquiry. Also do check out the periodical tour and hotel discount and the latest offers and promotions in our website.

Why are there MYR and RM in Malaysian currency?

The Malaysian Ringgit is the currency of Malaysia. The currency code for Ringgits is MYR, and the currency symbol is RM.

Why do you quote and accept Singapore Dollars (SGD) in your website?

Unfortunately, our Malaysian currency (MYR) is not as widely accepted & recognised compared to our neighbouring country - Singapore. Many of our guests from China, Hong Kong, Europe, America & etc commented that their local banks do not provide MYR transaction services. Therefore, we setup a branch office in Singapore to offer SGD transaction services for better facilitation to our guests. Moreover, Singapore has lower bank charges too.
